Trendlines that survive a second look
Trendlines invite confidence. They also invite fiction. Many charts we review hide price beneath three sloping lines that each tell a different story about the same NZDUSD swing.
Two touches are a sketch
A line that connects two points is a hypothesis. A third respectful touch without forced anchors strengthens it. Stretching a line to catch an awkward wick usually means you wanted the story more than the structure.
Match the timeframe of the decision
If you plan to judge the day on the hourly chart, do not let a weekly trendline dominate your marks unless you can explain the handoff. Multi-timeframe reading is part of our curriculum, but each line still needs a declared job.
Discard with ceremony
When price accepts beyond the line and stays there, archive the drawing. Keeping a broken trendline “just in case” clutters the next session’s eyes. Clean charts are not aesthetic vanity; they are how memory stays honest between lessons.
